An Invite to the BIDs Capacity Building Workshop – 19th February 2008

Grantham Future is hosting the above event on Tuesday 19th February at Springfield House, Grantham. The half day workshop aims to develop momentum, ideas and projects for BIDs (Business Improvement Districts) for Grantham town centre.

BIDs involve a specific geographical area where businesses vote to collectively invest in specific initiatives that will improve their trading environment. It is vital that local businesses are involved in the full BID’s process - designed to provide control, leadership and finances to the business community. Your thoughts and opinions are central to this process, and essential for shaping the future of Grantham.

Whilst originating in the USA, BIDs have become increasingly popular in the UK. Locally, Nottingham, Derby, Lincoln and Sleaford have voted ‘yes’ for a BID, which equates to approximately £1million worth of funds per year for improving their town/city centres. There is a potential for Grantham to generate over £200,000 per year to spend in areas you think would benefit your business.

This workshop is one of the final stages in emda’s (East Midlands Development Agency) BID’s Acadamy which Grantham Future are enrolled upon. The output will be a BIDs feasibility study for Grantham and an action plan for the next stages.

Bookings for the workshop are essential. For further information or to book your place, please contact Grantham town centre manager, Lia Ibbotson, on 01476 514491 or email lia.ibbotson@hotmail.co.uk.

Grantham’s Grand for Christmas!

You could bag a £1000 reward just by visiting Grantham! This is the latest scheme funded by Grantham Future and working in partnership with Grantham Business Club to promote the town. “Grantham’s Grand for Christmas” is a free prize draw that will reward one lucky visitor to the town with £1000.

All you have to do to enter the prize draw is visit a participating store, fill in an entry form and ‘post’ it into the store’s collection box. No purchase is necessary (terms and conditions apply).

Mrs Smith adds: "This is a great example of partnership working to deliver benefits for all. This is the first time Grantham Future and Grantham Business Club have teamed up to get behind the town. The campaign will provide added incentives for shoppers to stay local, in a town with much to offer. Happy shopping and good luck to all in the free draw for £1000!"

FREE PRE-CHRISTMAS PARKING BOOST FOR GRANTHAM

Continuing campaign to promote superb shopping and great gifts

The latest move in the campaign to boost trade in town has been unveiled by Grantham Future and the Grantham Business Club. To help promote Grantham town centre, Grantham Future is providing free parking on the four Saturdays before Christmas.

The campaign’s aim is to attract residents and visitors to support local businesses by shopping locally. This new initiative follows the launch of the "Live, Shop, Grow" campaign in October.

The free parking will be available in all SKDC’s Grantham car parks on 1, 8, 15 and 22 December. Council car parks are in Welham Street, Wharf Road, Conduit Lane, Guildhall Street, St Catherine’s Road and Watergate.

Jacky Smith, Grantham Future chairman, said: "Through Grantham Future and the business club working together we’ve been able to organise and provide free parking – which will benefit everyone in the run up to Christmas. By removing the pressure of parking, we hope to encourage more people to shop in the town. There is no time limit on the days specified, so people can really enjoy ambling around the shops and maybe have a leisurely lunch without keeping their eye on the clock."

BIDs Application

Grantham Future have been successful in an application to emda (East Midlands Development Agency) for a place on their BIDs Acadamy: Early BID Development. Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) involve a specific area where businesses vote to collectively invest in specific initiatives that will improve their trading environment. The BIDs Acadamy aims to determine a feasibility study for the area and be the first stage of potentially implementing a BID.
